New Year’s Eve is the biggest night of celebration felt all around the world, no matter where you are on New Year’s Eve – you’re bound to have a blast. However, there are a few special cities dotted around the globe that do things a little extra. Here’s a look at the best cities to spend New Year’s Eve in around the world:
Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong has arguably the world’s best fireworks display to see in the New Year. At Victoria Harbour at the stroke of midnight, millions are treated to a spectacular scene. Best viewed away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Instead, there are a number of wonderful rooftop bars and venues to choose from with amazing views of the harbour.
Celebrate like a true Londoner and make your way to the London Eye to watch a beautiful display of magical fireworks. Unsurprisingly the city gets pretty packed this time of year, so be sure to book far in advance. Once you’re done admiring the show, head off to one of the thousands of venues offering New Years packages around the city.
New York City, USA
Pack your favourite travel accessories and make your way to New York City for a memorable holiday. Times Square is one of the most popular places to celebrate New Year’s Eve, so it’s best to view from afar at one of the amazing skyscraper buildings. If you don’t want to watch the main display, you could always travel to Brooklyn to watch the free fireworks and live music in Prospect Park.
The event takes place in the capital’s main square Praça do Comércio. The fiesta runs until late, and music only really gets started at 10pm. There’s truly a street party feel, with everyone staying out and dancing to the live music throughout the night. After the fireworks, many partygoers also head to the surrounding clubs and bars.
Edinburgh doesn’t go halves when it comes to NYE. The capital hosts a 3-day party that starts on the 30th December with a Viking-style procession through the city. A concert will be held in the centre, with live music and delicious food stands. The main fireworks take place with a stunning view – over Edinburgh Castle. Street parties then take place throughout the night until early morning.
The Barcelona party doesn’t get started until about 11pm, where crowds gather in the city centre to watch an amazing pyrotechnics display on the hill. After the celebrations, head to the popular clubs and bars that keep the party going all night until about 7am the next day.
Where Will You Jet To This NYE?
There’s no place more magical on New Year’s Eve than in the centre of a buzzing city. Whether you want to experience the end of the year as a true New Yorker or get engrossed in the traditions of Edinburgh, it will be a wonderfully memorable experience no matter where you are.
